July 2006 - Moldova
Both Cory Carlton and Don Meyer found themselves in the small country of Moldova in Eastern Europe before they knew each other. Moldova is the size of Rhode Island and is poorest country in Europe. Both Cory and Don were on missions trips. Separate missions trips. Cory was working on a construction project for a transitional home for girls after they left the orphanage. This would be a safe place for them to live and learn life skills to help them make a better life. Don was working in an orphanage and little did he know that God would call him to adopt one of the orphans, and his three siblings.
While in the process of adopting, a friend of Don's came to him with an idea to raise money for the adoption. "Let's get a group of people together to fix and repair a widow's home for the day. We can send letters out to everyone we know asking them to sponsor us for the day." he said.
With that, Both Hands Foundation was created and on that day they raised $55,000 for the adoption and Don's family grew by four.
What led Cory and Don to Moldova continues to drive the purpose for Both Hands Financial Group.
James 1:27 - “Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
